I just wanted to apologize for not being a great ambassador for this style. Truth is. I'm probably a nut job. I'm a little over defensive of the things I like. I'm trying to change, but the journey is difficult. I know I'm elitist and stuck up about music. Music is pretty much my life, and I defend the music I like to the end. I know I have a lot of growing up to do. Hopefully college will help me get there. I'm going to be going back to college to become a vocal major and be the best opera singer I can be. Then hopefully, if I'm able, I'll introduce the classical World to the style. That is my goal. To establish a place in the classical Canon for the banjo.

The fortunes of the banjo in the popularity stakes, ebb and flow. In my opinion it's been as near the centre of things as it is ever likely to get, since 'The Clampetts' hit the TV screens in the 1960s, followed up by 'Deliverance' and 'Duellin' Banjos', Bonnie and Clyde might have also helped with FMB. The Classical side of things on the Classic banjo has been well explored since the early days, Farland, Ossman, Hunter, Van Eps, Oakley, Cammeyer, and many other banjo players all featured classical pieces in their performances and some also recorded some of them. One thing that strikes me these days is that the musical education of the average person (this might not apply outside the UK) is practically non existent, so it really doesn't matter  what you play to them, on a banjo, or any other instrument, as they won't recognise anything that isn't presently 'in the charts' or was 'in the charts' in the last six months. The bottom line for most professional musicians is ' Is there any money to be made out of playing a particular genre of music or a particular musical instrument/', if there is, they will play it. The banjo has one advantage over most others in that it is seen as a 'fun' instrument' and most people like fun, so you have a head start when you show up anywhere with a banjo. Just remember that people want to be entertained, not educated.

What is "FMB"?  The internet says Forest Management Bureau, Flavored Malt Beverage, and some Tik Tok meaning that is incomprehensible to me. I think you mean something else.

It's a tune called 'Foggy Mountain Breakdown', a chap called Scruggs used to play it.

OH!   I knew you meant something relevant to the rest of your post but I could not work it out.

Yes, I see that some people often abbreviate the title to 'FMB' as the tune is so well known, so I just followed suit.
