I got it BAS, and that ain't good

(B.A.S. - banjo acquisition syndrome)

Like some other folks on this site (ahem - Rob - ahem) I seem always to be on the lookout for yet another banjo. Bernunzio's site is looked at weekly - more often if I'm especially covetous. I also check out a shop that is relatively local to me called Buffalo Bros ... Recently I went up to their shop to check out 4 different banjos (pics on the BB site): a 1920s Van Eps; a Fairbanks &… Continue

Bill Evans playing a banjola

Here's a link to Bill Evans playing Frank Converse's arrangement (with variations) of Home Sweet Home ...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ESpG1obQgs

I've watched it about 6 times now ...

I believe the kids today would say he "shreds!" :)

Syncopatin' Shuffle

Hi All,

About 3 years ago there was a program presented by Julian Vincent on BBC Radio 4 called Syncopatin' Shuffle. I have a copy of this program and listened to it again this week. I think it's a wonderful show and think some of you will enjoy it too. It's not strictly about classic banjo - it covers minstrel/stroke-style, classic, bluegrass and clawhammer.

I contacted Mr Vincent and while he is not the copyright holder (the BBC is) he had no issue with me making it… Continue

Marmion Schottiche

Attached is a version of Marmion Schottiche from Clarke Buehling's "Choice Music for Banjo and Banjeaurine." I play it in eAEG#B rather than standard C. It's played on my ca. 1880s Morrison with nylgut strings.

It's a rough recording - both in its playing and actual recording. But had I decided to wait for perfection I'd never post anything ... :)

Feel free to advise, criticize, or comment.

Finally, what do you folks use to record your tunes? If anyone has… Continue

HI Adam. Yes, I'll upload the TAB for Sunflower Dance for you tomorrow night, too late to do it tonight. I have both parts (1st and 2nd banjo) for it, so if you can find a friend, it makes a great duet (and the 2nd part is very easy).

I was out at the California Banjo Gathering in Sacramento last October and played a few gigs around the area. The only way to get me or the Old 78s,
or the Skirtlifters for that matter, would be to find a keystone gig like a festival.
I have a couple sisters in Santa Barbara and one in Orange county, so I do
come through on holidays sometimes.

Thanks Adam!
I just found this website by chance, I love it!
It seems to be a nice variety of people, anything from beginners to advanced.
I have never played classic before so this will be a new challenge for me.
Hope you're keeping well in sunny California dude!

Hey Adam- Nice to hear from you. Happy to oblige with a CD- but I'm dealing with a death in the family at the moment, and won't be back until next week. I'll connect with you then- thanks so much- Peter

I listened to all your audio feeds-- I guess I missed them before- they aren't as "prominent" as the video's perhaps-- anyway you sound good, lots of style and passion in your playing. I especially dug your Gumbo Reel. Good stuff there.
