Hi All,

About 3 years ago there was a program presented by Julian Vincent on BBC Radio 4 called Syncopatin' Shuffle. I have a copy of this program and listened to it again this week. I think it's a wonderful show and think some of you will enjoy it too. It's not strictly about classic banjo - it covers minstrel/stroke-style, classic, bluegrass and clawhammer.

I contacted Mr Vincent and while he is not the copyright holder (the BBC is) he had no issue with me making it available to all of you. However, since the BBC is the copyright holder I decided it was best to host the file on my own site, away from Ning, should there be any repercussions. (Doubtful.)

Here are the program details:

Syncopatin' Shuffle

Tuesday 23 January 2007 13:30-14:00 (Radio 4 FM)

Repeated: Monday 29 January 2007 23:00-23:30 (Radio 4 FM)

Julian Vincent from Bath University presents a history of the banjo, a much-maligned instrument which enjoyed enormous popularity in bygone days.

From its African roots via the American slave trade, the banjo became the prime
instrument of popular entertainment, particularly in Britain, from the
minstrel shows featuring blacked-up whites to the drawing rooms of fine
young Victorian ladies.

And here's the link to the file:

(Some of you will recall that the site "classicbanjotunes.com" is my own effort to create a database of classic banjo tunes ... It's a project which stalled some time ago, but it's only stalled. I hope to get back to building it up in the not too distant future.)

Cheers!

Adam
