“A Southern Belle” was written by Max Eugene in 1903 and recorded by Ossman for American Records c. 1905. This is a lively, rag-time piece of the type Ossman played so well, and for which he is best remembered. It is quite a contrast to last week’s Caprice. With this (restored) recording set very near proper pitch and tempo, Vess L. breezes through the piece faultlessly, at a finger blistering 124 bpm or so. Banjo King indeed!

Have a listen to Ossman’s performance as well as the digital playback of my transcription. PDFs are available below in notation and tablature.

Ah it works ! just not on my phone or ipad!

Hi Daniel,

The way the player software works requires a current version of "Flash" to be installed on your computer and I believe that iPads/ phones don't support Flash without installing third party apps..

We have updated a few things on our server so MOST people will be able view files and listen to audio.

Now working perfectly here at work. Thanks Ian!
