"No worries ..... I think with your help I've figured it out. I can certainly play a version of the tune and in any case perhaps this is a stepping stone to reading notation for me."

"Sounds lovely. Mellow but punchy if that's possible! Helps that it's played superbly too."

"Great .... that's really helpful. Now I'm mighty jealous of your fine sister banjo! So .... the pinches come on the 3rd and 7th beat?"

"Thanks for the swift reply .... apparently my photo of a tab was over 5mb ... I'll try again when the wi fi is more reliable. You're quite right about obsessing about the details - Does hamper the progress a bit! In many of the versions…"

"Hi Joel .... if I'm not mistaken my attached file should be a tab that is the same as your 1960 musical notation. Any help on this would be great. I'd just like to know if they are the same and secondly, as there are pinches in the 2cnd…"

"Working through the Stahl method ... nice book and thanks for the recommendation. The excellent version you play of Ragtime Episode in the music library appears to have no pinches in the 2cnd/4th measure but others do (I think!!) such as Marc…"

"Yes, certainly any printed music can be read for banjo so long as the notes are within the banjo's range and impossible things are not asked for, such as playing the low C and the E at the fourth fret on the C string simultaneously. The key of…"

Ragtime Episode help!

Hello folks ... I hope you can help me. I'm having trouble with the Ragtime Episode tab I've got. I can't work out the fingering as it seems so fast! Do you pinch with the thumb and forefinger on the 2cnd bar or use the ring finger to maintain the speed?? I'm used to rolls on bluegrass and knowing how the fingering works but I really can't figure this one out. I don't expect to be as good as Rob Mackillop and others but any help would be most welcome. Thanks in advance!
