A Site Dedicated to all enthusiasts of Classic Style Banjo
Tim Spacek played this on my CE Special last Saturday night after the show and OMG, I could have closed my eyes and been sitting in front of Bill Ball. Tim's a fine player but THAT SOUND! I have again fallen in love with my CE Special.
So, I'm working on "At Sunset", but the notation (here and my copy too) is atrocious, very difficult to read, blurry and tiny.
Anyone out there with a clean copy they're willing to scan/send?

Thanks Jody...but no, same copy as what's here and what I have. I also contacted Becky Schneider, the ABF librarian and she sent me what she thought was a clean copy...same copy, blurry and very hard to read. She thought it was readable until I asked about some specific bits. "Oh. I can't read that..."
I can make out most of the notes but some are so smeared that the accidentals (and some notes) are unreadable. Then there are the fingerings that are jammed in there too. I'm creating a clean copy (and tab) but in some cases I just have to poke a note in there and listen. My ears are often the only guide I have.
Eventually, I'll post the new transcription here. Hopefully someone will play thru it and point out any errors.
I can significantly enlarge the notation on my computer but it I can't seem to be able to post the enlargement here. If you tell me which measures, accidentals, notes and fingerings are not readable I'll have a look and see if I can clearly see what it is. (And I'll tell you what I see of course).
False alarm/false hope. I can't even tell all of what is meant in the very first measure.

LOL. It is pretty dang blurry/smeared in the A part. I think I got it though. Reading the fingering (such that I can read) vs the blurry/smeared notes helped with some of them. After a while, I got used to figuring out what was there and, see attached for the first draft of my "cleaned up" version.
Anybody: please let me know if there are corrections to be made!
I'll add any flags (for the 5th string) and the two position notations. I'm not going to try to add in all the fingering. I also have a copy of the 2nd, which I'll similarly transcribe.
Hi Marc,
Are the attached any better for you?
Certainly better for *me* !

Yes! Very clear! Thank you.
Now I can be confidant in my transcription.

Ok, I've worked it over and found a few mis-readings due to blur/smear. Here's the corrected (thanks Ian!) 1st with all the 5th string flags (and some 5th string "0"s where they were in the original). I added the position markings and the extension notes (Ex)...but left out the innumerable fingering numbers.
I'll similarly go thru the 2nd, adding all the bits and bobs...and repost it. I'm going to delete my first attempts, above.
Here's the updated 2nd. Of course, with Ian's clear copy, these are a tad redundant...but I had fun doing them and maybe someone will find use for them.

@$#%&! The "Subtitle" in Musescore is fixed, and you have to finagle it for the 2nds. I missed it in the above copy. Here's the one that actually says "2nd Banjo". Grrrrrr.
