Anyone know what the 20fret Clifford Essex Professional scale length is and did they make an 11 inch pot version?  I'm doing some 'looking-into' banjos with a shorter-scale than standard.

Not a bad price either.

Nah...Miz Diane would lop off a limb if I bought a banjo right now. ;-)

Sell one, buy one.  That is the work around.

I think it is a little high (like $150 too high).  The finish on the back of the neck is rough  I am confused by the damage inside the rim (how does that happen?).  The photos are oddly close and just show enough without showing it all-- that concerns me as well.

These tend to have neck warpage issues, it is best to see them in person or buy from someone who knows.

FWIW they are off on their date by at least a decade (too early).

"Sell one"...Hahahahah. Joel, you are a funny guy.

Yes, I saw all the damage, If I were interested enough, I would make an offer (lower) rather than just buy it outright.

I love large-pot banjos. They're more comfortable for me to play (usually) and I am rarely up above the 17th fret. I do have a couple small-pot banjos that I have in routine rotation (a 10" FF Professional MB pot converted to a short-scale, scooped CH banjo)...but one of these days I'll sneak a CE Pro into the herd.

Marc, just sell a junky Buckbee tub.  That is "a banjo."

I do have every intention of selling the ones I resuscitate. I have several Buckbee tubs...but they all need work (and they're still boxed up). I have this thing about selling stuff...I don't like it. Consequently I have a lot of crap laying around. With retirement, my world is changing and I'm changing (well, a little). I hope I can throw some of those old fish back after I get them swimming again.

I've sometimes wondered if the CE 'Professional' model was made by the Barnes Brothers as they are so unlike any other of the CE banjos. I've only seen three of the BBs banjos but they share a lot of the characteristics of the CE 'Professional' model. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Barnes-Brothers-Tenor-banjo-Tuned-GDAE-r...

That certainly does tick all of the boxes Richard.  And you are correct, Professionals are not like any other CE model.  In my opinion, they are not like any other banjo make.

I wish we could turn up those missing BMGs between 1920 and 1925 to narrow down the date of introduction and perhaps have an idea of what CE was thinking with them.  They don't seem to promote them at all other than a few BMG listings and the catalog.  In the issues we have there are no full page or half page ads for them like the other high end models.  I have not seen a listing for resonators either, but I have one for mine.

They are cool banjos-- but weird.

I think of mine as a cross between "classic era" and "early tub" banjos.  It makes for a great stroke style banjo.
