“Dixie Girl” was written by J. Bodewalt Lampe, composer of “Dreamy Eyes” and “Creole Belles”, and published in 1903. It was recorded by the Ossman Dudley Trio in 1906. George Dudley’s 32 string harp guitar provides a deep, resonant bass, while Audley Dudley’s mandolin tremolos provide the high end. Ossman’s powerful banjo work defines the melody.
Below is a restored original recording, digital playback of my transcription, notation and tab for Ossman’s solo. Transcribing was made somewhat easier by filtering out the Dudleys (low and high frequencies) as much as possible.
