Hello everyone, I am trying to get my music organized but I am missing the composers for a few of the songs. I was hoping you could help me out. I am looking for the composers for the following songs:

  • The Vamp
  • Pete's Awakening
  • Tricky Sam
  • At the Campfire
  • Dervish Dance
  • Sambo's Picnic
  • Piper's March
  • You've Got To Have Music
  • Wallaby Polka
  • Insurgents Patrol
  • Arabian Nights
  • Escalante

Any help would be appreciated.

Hal, the Wallaby Polka was composed by Alf. Wood.   Great title!  I can see it all in my mind's eye. A polka done by Wallabies might be very much like a dachshund race. Random chaos. With accompaniment in F major.  Sorry I can't help with the other titles.

Thanks, Jody. You started the ball rolling.

Hi Hal, I am a bit confused.

You say that you are organising your music, so if you have the sheet music the top right hand corner below the title is the place to look ;-)

If you don't have the sheet music, what are you organising?

One thought,  could the ABF library not help with this information?   I used to have their scores list, but can't find it anywhere. Does anyone have a copy that they could send me please?

Sorry I don't recognise any other than Wallaby Polka either.

... and here is a very poor recording of it:

You have boxed me into a corner, Ian. I wasn't going to mention it yet but it is my collection of old audio that I am organizing. I am cleaning up the music and adding the correct tags to each piece. Over the years, people have sent me cassettes and CDs of many of the classic performers. Because the Shop Banjo site is not as successful as I had hoped, I have decided to put all of the music into an internet radio station that will play all of my songs 24/7. I want to make certain this music doesn't disappear when I am gone. At the present time I have close to 500 pieces ready but I am not done restoring the rest of what I have, probably another 200-300 songs. The songs will be displayed by Performer, Title, and composer, thus the need for some identification of a few songs. I have been using the ABF library list, the Pisocorpum list, and Phil Spiers' list to identify these pieces but some songs are not in either of the lists. It won't stop me from using the songs, they just won't have the composer listed. But it would be nice to have everything complete.

Now that I have spilled the beans, I guess I will post a request to the membership for their collections of tapes and CDs that I can restore and include in the radio Station. I am hoping to go live this year yet but it depends on how much music I can get together by then.

What do you think of my plan?
