I decided to go ahead and send this to Ian for upload to the Music Library. Thanks a bunch Ian and I hope everyone enjoys the piece!

In terms of sound, this weighs against the argument that E major is unsuitable for 5 string banjo. This piece sounds like a typical popular waltz from the late 19th century , arranged for banjo in the usual way of the era.

In terms of fingering, it weighs in favor of the argument. On my 27 inch scale Bacon banjo there are some challenging  finger stretches.  But no worse than those found in some of Cammeyer's pieces.

What is the meaning of the starred numbers appearing over some of the measures?

The starred numbers are there to mark the fret position. I always try to make the transpositions look like the original score if I can.

I am used to seeing numbers for frets but in measure 10 they are the wrong frets for the notes so I thought maybe the asterisks meant something else. Now I realize that the numbers are misplaced in that measure but correct in measure 11. In  measure 10 they are one place further to the right than they should be. The fret numbers are meant for the lower notes in the couplets but in measure 10 they are placed over the higher notes.

My apologies, that was definitely an oversight.
