Doesn't look like my regal or the case it came in. Could be the 1970s recreation
Never mind but the case I got was said to be the original and is falling apart and basically is just firewood now.

This is an old Regal. It looks like every CE Regal I have seen or played.
The lining of the case looks suspiciously clean and new. But the outer part looks like many 80, 90, and 100 year old cases I have seen. Cases do not automatically fall apart with age. If handled with care, a well-made case will last a very long time

You are not missing anything Austin, most period cases are really not much more than dust covers and offered little if any protection.
In the US the standard case was like a leather knife sheath and the banjo was shoved in from the bottom that closed with various methods of snaps or buckles and straps. If you look at American banjos of the classic era, 99.99% of them will have a rub or wear spot on the top back of the peghead. This was caused by using those cases.
The cases we have now, though very heavy are leagues better than any period case.
Yes there were such cases. The Regal banjo model was introduced by CE in the 1930s By then excellent cases were being made in the USA. Lifton and Geib were two manufacturers of great cases. In the UK I'm not sure.
