Over on Yahoo Classic Banjo it has been suggested that someone set up a directory of Classic Banjo Teachers. I am not trying to steal anyone on Yahoo's  thunder, but it would be fairly easy to add a page on here with links etc, a bio/ pic  if they wish of any teachers offering lessons either face to face or net based in Classic Style banjo.

If anyone wants to email me their details I will see what I can do...

if it is already being set up elsewhere, I won't :-)

Don't see why we shouldn't have a list of teachers.  I would say " go for it ".

Thanks Ian. If you do set up such a page I'd be  happy to be included. I teach and my students say I'm good at it. I'll teach in person here in San Francisco or via Skype.  Until such a page is set up anyone interested can contact me via the message function on this website. My dad was a physics professor and his motto was "teach the student, not the subject" and that's how I teach. I don't just blather at the student and expect conformity to my orders. I see what the student can and can't do and build on the strengths and shore up the weaknesses.

I'd support that.. those interested need not necessarily be formal teachers but players who would be willing to share their expertise with others..Steve.

I think it is an excellent idea -works very well on the Federation web-site viz: http://www.banjomandolinguitar.org/teachers.htm

The amount of activity on the Classic Banjo Yahoogroup has been very minimal. As someone else has said, it is archaic and has lost its usefulness. I would appreciate if you would post a teacher's page here. Your site is much better suited to quick communication.

I would mention though, that most of the music on the Yahoogroup site has been also posted on the Classic Banjo Resource site and is still waiting to be accessed for free.

Hal, what is the "Classic Banjo Resource" site?

Jody, when I took over the Classicbanjo.com site, it had been created by Geoff Freed's wife, June Rutkowski. She created it as a student project at Harvard. At the time, she called it the Classic Banjo Resource Page. I later changed it after an overhaul of the site. It is now officially Classic Banjo but I called it the Resource site to differentiate it from the Ning site in this email. Both are doing well as you probably know. I just didn't want to confuse anyone. Both the Yahoogroup and the Classicbanjo.com sites belong to me.

Thanks Hal, now I get it.
