Fred Van Eps plays Abe Holzmann's famous "Blaze Away" 1902

Here is a recording by Fred Van Eps that I had somehow not heard before!

It is a great and popular tune and recorded on Edison Cylinder in 1902

Great recording - very clear - and I love the artwork!

Great tune! The rider on the horse is wearing glasses...and is obviously intended to recall Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Teddy's horse was named "Little Texas".

I'm sure you're right about Teddy R. But...

I magnified the artwork as large as it would go and I still don't see the glasses. Maybe *I* need glasses. But the horse! The horse strongly resembles the horse in the photo. I think "Little Texas" would be a great title for a Banjo Solo.

I think the cylinder was a better jumper the the horse.

But I love how FVE just has to use more notes than everyone else.

Brilliant!

:-)
