I was hunting around for Fred Van Eps recording that I had not come across before when I found these two goodies.

I will probably be the only one who likes them, but here they are anyway!

In the second one there is a great finger tremolo 2nd banjo accompaniment played by an un-named banjoist.

The first piece is entitled “Palm Beach” by C Luckyeth Roberts.

... and the second one is the composition, “Dixie Girl” by good old J. Bodewalt Lampe

Both were recorded in 1920 on Victor Records.

Thanks, I certainly did enjoy it. I had never heard them before.  The tremolo on Dixie Girl, according to  Heier and Lotz in "The Banjo On Record" is William Van Eps. But the recording seems to have been rejected and unissued by Victor. How did you find it?  William plays both mandolin and banjo on the repertoire of this session, depending on the selection.   I agree that on Dixie Girl this is a banjo but it sounds to me like it might be played with a flexible plectrum. The third member of the trio playing Palm Beach (Rag) is Nathan Glantz on alto sax.
