Some days ago the stand that was supposedly holding and supporting my Clifford Essex Regal banjo discharged its burden and toppled the banjo flat on its face. Maybe it was bowing to the Regal name on the peghead. One peg button and the arm rest took most of the shock and the arm rest broke in half. Unfortunately the break is at one of the spots where the arm rest attaches to a bracket hook. *And* the arm rest is warped. It might be easier to replace than to repair well. Does anyone have one for sale?  Some people take off arm rests and never use them or replace them with other kinds. I thought it worth asking. Here are two photos. Thanks!

same thing on mine ( see my later videos ) but don '  t  have  the lil ' piece

i guess with cyanolit , you will not have problem to re glue it ; put cyanolit on both armrest and metal

Now that is a nuisance!  So three of us now need a new CE armrest!

I bought a complete second hand CE armrest of this type from the BHO for $75, but that was a few years ago and had a rosewood top, not plastic.

I may try to make a teak, ebony or rosewood one for mine as wood is easier to cut, shape and polish than plastic... So making a wooden replacement may be an option for Jody?

Breaking news: A friend of mine who is a luthier thinks he can repair it effectively.

Does anyone know what these breakable white arm rests are made of? It's not celluloid or bakelite.

Ian and Marc, did your CE armrests break in the same way? An instrument stand tipping over for no apparent reason?  Ian, I think the the rosewood armrest looks good. But it might look odd on a Regal model.

I've got one with a white plastic armrest, all original, in good condition, a rare item, the first £50 (fifty pounds) buys it, don't miss it.

As Jody is getting his repaired.. I will buy it please Richard  for my new CE that I have just bought   :-)

that's for the whole banjo?

Breaking news?  Ha ha ha.

I was led to believe that the plastic was a casein based early polymer called "Erinoid".

ERINOID DETAILS

Erinoid seems to suggest Mock Irish! Casein? So these armrests are made of milk? No wonder they break.

No, wait… doesn't "erinoid" mean delusions of persecution or grandeur?

No,  that's a different plastic called "Paranoid".

Perhaps your armest was made of that and it finally snapped?
