Are there any classic banjo clubs or groups for beginers in the roanok,virginia area yhat I can join?

I don't think that you will find local groups for Classic Style banjo playing as they are very few and far between. You may be better contacting Paul Heilman the secretary of the American Banjo Fraternity who may have members in your area.

The ABF just recently published their member's address book. I'll look and see if there are any listed for your area. However, membership is not high...so don't get your hopes up. ;-)

Allen, I looked thru the ABF directory and I can't find anyone in the Roanoak, VA area. You'll probably have much better luck searching for more popular styles of play in your area. Your area is a hotbed of both Oldtime clawhammer and Bluegrass style picking. With arthritis, you might find clawhammer a much easier style to start out on.
