A Site Dedicated to all enthusiasts of Classic Style Banjo
Hi all,
did Morley ever write a 2nd banjo or piano part for Rose Leaves gavotte? I've been playing it, and while it's a very nice song some parts just seem to beg for some harmonic backup. If it does exist and anyone can post it, I'd be much obliged.

Hi Mike,
I hope you give us a nice lively performance of Rose Leaves Gavotte.. it's a dance, you know :-)
How is Syncopatin' Shuffle coming along? I hope you made sense of my scribbled manuscript!
Hi Ian,
I've just been fooling around with "Rose Leaves", mainly because it's very easy to play and it gives me something light to play while I'm not struggling with Frank Lawes' Godly fingering abilities, though I've been working hard on keeping time accurately and playing it at an even, danceable pace.
The Shuffle is coming along very nicely, I can play it through now but I still need to iron out some mistakes and bad habits which, combined with the fear-inducing red eyed monster, would make my performance fall apart if I attempted to record it. The manuscript was very helpful, and it really adds variety to the Trio part which can be a bit repetitive otherwise.
I'm afraid I'm also suffering from a bad case of the common disease known as becomegreedyandattempttolearntoomanytoodifficultsolosatthesametimeitis... I must have started learning Ad Astra about two months ago and I still can't finger the introduction rapidly enough (need to work more on those Morley thumb-index runs...) but it's great fun and very challenging to attempt all these difficult solos and it really makes me work on my technique, I'm miles ahead of where I was a few months ago... solos I'm currently dabbling with include Pompadour, Egyptian Princess (can play the first part fluidly now, I fall apart in the second!) Hot Frets (and I thought Syncopatin' Shuffle was hard...) The London Club Parade, Dream Dance and a few others.
I'll see if I can record the Shuffle on saturday!
Commiserations Mike on your problems with a thief.

Thanks a lot, Richard! I really appreciate the input, and I'll try to play the piano part as soon as I can access a piano (I was hoping to visit a piano-playing friend to record some solos). Sorry if I didn't answer earlier, I was robbed the other day and I spent most of my energies trying to track down the thief, which put me in a somewhat un-banjoish mood.
