Uploading picture

I've uploaded my picture into the main photo file but I can't figure out how to get it into my personal profile. I select add photo on the icon and select a file and picture from my computer but when I click open, it's not going into upload mode.

I have to admit it, I'm well past my sell by date...after a bit of messing about and pressing of butons I seem to have done it but don't ask how....Steve.
