Chris Ware has sent me a score for the 71st Regiment Quickstep. I have no idea about the worthiness of the tune... but the front cover is a delight!

Vess Ossman as I have never seen him before.  He looks about 15 years old. This is an amazing picture that I am pretty sure has not been seen on the web before..thank you Chris.

The score in now available for download in the MUSIC LIBRARY.

Very cool picture. What is the pub date on the sheet music? Has to be from before Vess' recording career started. 1880's to very early 1890's?

Well, duh! I looked at it in the library...1892. Mr. Ossman started his recording career the very next year. He was 24 in 1892.

Yep

Very nice photo and well worth framing.

The weather patterns in the late 1880's and early 1890's must have been on the chilly side! Corduroy coat, vest, etc... I'll bet Joel H. has some info on the attire. Might have been high-fashion for the date.

Looks like him Mum knitted it for him...  ahhhhh bless him :-)
