Tom was a legend, and as Rob Murch said, " with a wicked sense of humour ". If you go into the 'Classic Banjo" which is one of the best sites around. http://www.classicbanjo.com/covers/image22.htm There is a Front Cover that I specially designed for one of Tom's better known pieces. Ray

Hello Tarry, yes I knew Tom very well, often making the trip down to Devon for a tune or two. On one occasionI took William J Ball to meet Tom on another trip Alf Brimble came with me. I have some music Tom sent me on a piece of scrap paper, on the reverse is written your name 'Tarrant Barriball'. I often wondered if you were named after Tarrant Bailey. I first met Tom at the home of my banjo teacher, Horace Craddy, who took lessons from Tarrant Bailey Snr. Tom bought Rob Murch up with him on one occasion, we have been friends ever since. I have videos and photos, plus numerous letters from Tom, he was a wonderful inspiration and a true character with a wicked sense of humour.

Dear Tarry,

I dont have much in the way of computer literacy but recently learned of your query ref where did Tom learn. He once told me that his first lessons were from his father, and that whilst still a schoolboy he took the train to Plymouth regularly on Saturdays for lessons with Joe George.

Joe composed "Kissing Cup" which Tom introduces on the widely circulated tape.I think when Tom introduces the piece on tape he only says "before the war I used to go to Joe George" but this was for tuition. Jill and I were in close contact with Tom and Mon for the last seven years of Tom's life and cherish the memories, think of him every day. What a man!

                                            Warmest wishes Tarry
