Well, it had to happen sometime. Mr. Scruggs passed away this morning. He was 88yrs old.

If it hadn't been for his influence, I probably would not be playing the banjo at all. Having a solid grounding in his three-finger style made my transition to Classic fingerstyle all the easier.

RIP Earl. We are diminished...

Very sad news indeed. I would say that Earl did more to popularise ALL styles of banjo playing than anyone in the last century. By bringing the banjo back into mainstream popularity many people, as Marc did, started  in "Bluegrass 3 finger style" and moved on to other styles of playing the instrument, including our Classic Style.

A sad day indeed.

I just saw the news. Earl's style is what got me started on the banjo, and all banjoists owe him a debt of gratitude for bringing our instrument back into the musical mainstream. Earl was a unique musician whose name and legacy will endure for generations.

R.I.P., Earl.
