Will there be "A" notation as well?  (I know I should learn to read in "C" but I've really gotten good at sight reading in "A")

Hey Joel,

Nice to see you and a Happy New Year to you.  "A" Tuning  ?........  Of course !!  

Click "more options" and in tuning select "other". I included it as "other" as there are various forms of tuning ... but that is where "A" will be, but at the moment I do not have any good scans in A tuning. If you can point me to any in .jpg or TIFF format I will add them. Do you have scores for the pieces that you play in the youtube videos you have posted on our site, as I can add them and link to the video in the database?

Thanks Ian , this is a fantastic resorse for us all . How about grading the music in the way that " Clifford Essex " used to do , -- A, B, C, --- it would save a lot of time for us players who don't quite know where we fit in. Thanks again  , kind regards , Mike .....

Hi Mike,

A great idea, but too late,  I have included it already :-)

For example select Joe Morley as composer and you will see a long list of results. At the RHS top of the result boxes  EASY, INTERMEDIATE, DIFFICULT is shown on many pieces. If any are missing, let me know what grade you think that they should be and I will add it to the database!  Sorry to hear that you have been unwell. I hope all is better now !!

After several weeks  developing the online library then scanning, photographing, sorting, image editing, photoshoping and compiling , then uploading scores and entering to the database and testing then  I am just about brain dead with Classic Banjo sheet music (Well, more brain dead than usual!)

I have now uploaded over 200 individual titles, many with second banjo and piano scores, which is 1000-1500 individual pages I have edited :-)   There will be many more and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the numerous people who have offered sheet music. I may have a few days break and play the banjo again... if I can remember how to play anything after so long!

Please check out the database and let me know if you find any errors as it is easy to make mistakes.

If anyone wants to upload Hi resolution scans to the Ning Photos section, or email them there is a link on the Library page.  Crisp clear PDF files work too if they come from a good scan, also they are MUCH smaller. I have to convert to TIFF files, but this is easy now!

Thank you, Ian. You deserve a vacation and a medal. Instead I'll give you a question: is there a way to peruse the library alphabetically?  There must be but I can't see how to do this except within the categories of author or tuning etc.

Hi Jody,

It is good to get suggestions and comments about the new venture.

When we designed the database we looked at it from the view point of a complete beginner who knew nothing about classic banjo music (my son). If we produced ALL the titles alphabetically on screen it would not be a database it would be a "list"and when displayed would scroll down the page....FOR EVER, particularly as the number of scores  increases!  Also the "Title" of a piece would mean nothing to a beginner, but to a player who has heard the piece and is looking for it, a simple 3 letter search in the SEARCH box would locate it in a short list.  More specific searches by  difficulty etc are available for the beginner and the "best bit" for me is the link to VIDEOS of people playing the piece. Soon AUDIO links may be available too!

My hope is that a facility like this will enable more musicians, of all levels, to come over to Classic Style. Listening and watching the piece and then being able to download the score is so easy, that there is no excuse NOT to play Classic Style!

I take your point about a full view of what is available and I have asked my son to see if a list can be available, but at the moment it is not as easy as you may think!!!

I agree entirely that it would be a list. And that is what I think the beginner and the experienced player both need. I wasn't looking for a list from which one could click and download a banjo solo. Just an ordinary list. I respectfully disagree about it not being simple. It is simply text. Scrolling down a long a way is not a problem at all. I also don't agree that a title means nothing to a beginner. A title is what draws one in, not the name of a composer. Which has more magnetism, "The Dance of The Lunatics" or "Thomas S Allen"?  I say the former does. "Onion Rag" or "A.J, Weidt"?  See what I mean?  A beginner knows about Joe Morley. That's a name to conjure with. But that's about it.
