Hi everyone,

I’m Gloria and I am “thereallyniceman’s” new student. I am just starting Classic Banjo and would like your help.

Ian says I have to feel relaxed when playing, so I am trying my best, and he also says that I have to wear a bow-tie to keep up appearances. I can’t tie it yet and Ian says he can’t help as his fingers turn to jelly when he tries.

I have a list of questions to ask over the next few weeks about Classic Style so please help me by posting your answers and suggestions.

But first, please just post an “Hello” reply to this message and tell me whereabouts in the world you come from and how long you have been playing.

I am from Blackpool here in the UK.

Love

Hi Gloria, are you for real ? I  like your " uniform " especially the black tie.  Not surprised Ian's hands shake when he tries to tie it ; )     How is Blackpool these days ? I spent sometime there when I lived in the Darlington area.  Saw your post earlier in the day and must admit I did think the guys would have commented before now.  Anyway nice to have another Female on the site .  Some  pop in but don't stay very long. They disappear like figments of the imagination.  Stay relaxed.

Sylvia : )

Classic-Banjo.ning has just gotten about 200% better.

You are not fooling anyone, that is clearly a "tech tie."  One only needs to fasten the hook.

Real self-respecting banjoists wear real ties.

(I'll let everyone in on the secret,  if you can tie your shoes, you can tie a bow-tie, it's the same knot)

Thanks Sylvia,  I agree!   All these guys on here and they are all too shy to post!

Hey Joel,

Don't tell Ian, I think that it must be his age, but he can't even manage the hook without going all peculiar. I have watched your videos and I would love to see you  back on here with a few more.

"Gloria", my foot! That's Peaches, my uncle Norman's secretary. If she's in Blackpool that would explain why no one here in California has seen her lately. But if Peaches is taking lessons from Ian, she's playing a prank because she's already an accomplished banjo player and can wallop the b'jeezus outa El Contrabandista or any other Banjo Bolero you toss her way.

Not this woman again. She just will not leave me alone.

Oooh Jody, or can I call you Uncle Jody?

You must be mistaken about the whereabouts of poor "Peaches". I tried searching the internet for you but found things that a young, innocent Blackpool girl shouldn't know about!   Ian says that you are a great player and I could learn a lot from you, so come one, make some more posts do some more videos for me. I am always willing to learn new things :-)

Hello Gloria,

I'm sure that we've met already, weren't you at that Christmas get together at the the 'Three Monkeys' in Missenden, when the Archbishop of Canterbury fell into the tropical fish tank? I often pass through Blackpool on my way north, so if you send me your address/email etc. I'll make arrangements to call in and see how you are progressing.

Hi there Richard,

No it wasn't me there. I couldn't make it to that party. Perhaps it was my identical twin sister Ophillia, who is very religious. We normally do 'everything' together. Ophillia showed me some of the photos of the party and am amazed how big yours is. I have never seen a bigger one! Those Contra Bass banjos really are enormous.

Ian says he hasn't seen you posting for ages, so please do post some more interesting stuff from your collection.

I am just starting out, but with the help of Ian and kind people like you, I will soon get a grip of it.

It has been a long time, my computer has been misbehaving but I think we have got things sorted out now.
