For anyone who feels that a metronome would be useful, have a look at this free download. http://www.nch.com.au/metronome/index.html

Even as a reasonably experienced player, I find using the metronome useful as I mainly play solo and it helps maintain a constant tempo when learning new tunes. It might also be useful for beginners and its free.

Hi Steve,

For beginners and advanced players a like metronomes are a nightmare. They never seem to be able to keep in time when you are playing!

Have you tried   http://www.webmetronome.com/

I have used this and it is fine until someone else on your home network (the daughter!) starts downloading big files and it suddenly seems to skip a beat and get out of tune with my playing...

...well that is my excuse anyway!

 

I would recommend that everyone gets one, but get a proper Maelzel Wooden case one as they burn better when you throw them across the room into the fire.

In my experience, most metronomes speed up when you get to the difficult bits :-)
