Battle Of Gettysburg..1917..Edward Taylor Paull

This is my 4th. arrangement of one of Paull's descriptive marches and in my opinion it's his best. It takes you on a musical journey through the battle to the final victory. I've added the full narrative notes to the score. The composition is, in my opinion, a mini masterpiece of the genre and I just hope that my arrangement has done it justice. In the opening section, Dixie and Yankee Doodle have been used to good effect. It took a lot of thought and much rewriting to condense it to something that would work on the banjo. The score is five pages long but is not too much of a challenge, it's a fun piece to play that is quite different from what is usually played on banjo. The score and midi are in the library...Steve.

Steve, these have been a lot of fun! Thank you for your efforts.

Even in the piano version, the sound effects (beginning) don't do very well. Probably sounded pretty cool on a big Theater Organ like a Wurlitzer though! Some of those had banks of effects like cannon shots and all sorts of crazy stuff.

I've been to many of the CW battlefields but not Gettysburg (yet).

Usually, these E.T. Paull pieces are more valued for their lithography than for the music inside...but this one deserves to be played.
