Hi, i think my genetic code may be constructed from banjo strings !!

The reason behind my thinking is that it is impossible for me to keep my body still when listening to banjo music ! I think even in my worst temper i would instantly lighten up if someone played me some banjo. Another curious thing - i find banjo music humorous !It makes me giggle on the inside ? Does anyone have these feelings?

For years I pooh-pooh-d the idea that banjo music or playing and/or hearing the banjo was particularly happy. After all there is some very mournful banjo music. Dock Boggs for instance. And there is all that other-worldly modal Appalachian mountain music and so many classic banjo tunes are in minor keys, C minor in particular, which is generally perceived as particularly sad. And if you listen to the words to bluegrass songs, they are not at all happy. Then about 12 years ago, after banjo taking a back seat to other instruments and interests I got back to playing banjo every day. And all my logic and "proof" turned out to be nothing but words. My mood *always* improved when I was around the banjo. And it still does. It's not just playing *an instrument*. It's the banjo.

I wish this were facebook, I'd press a "like" button for your post, Jody!

Ditto. I'm happiest with a banjo in my lap.

Perhaps my comments indicate that im still a "surface skimmer" ? Maybe when i go to some of the places that Jody mentions, i will feel a little different!

Good to know that you understand me though!

My banjo playing makes me happy but I can't guarantee it has that effect on the rest of my family.

The banjo gene is quite particular because I haven´t found a clear explanation of why I like the banjo so much in a region where the guitar´s family and the accordion are the kings. I consider I would be a interesting specimen for genetic studies...
