A twilight melody by Emile Grimshaw is a beautiful piece of music. Does anyone know if there is a published version written in tablature please ? Thanks Dave.

I had heard of "magic" software whereby you could simply scan in a piece of notation, press a button on your computer and tablature would appear. However in the 20 years I have been playing the banjo I have never found it or indeed found anything similar that could be used for the guitar for example. Thanks for all the various responses.

Some years ago I downloaded some software that allowed me to instantly ready pretty much any piece of banjo notation (but I am still only able to play within my ability).

That first app was only for A notation but I later installed the update that allowed for C notation banjo music too.

The best part is that once I installed the app I don't have to do it again.  The software seems to get better with time.

So...what was/is the app?

It was a thorough application of the Converse method (free to download).  The upgrade was using the Bradbury Mel Bay method.

You are evil! I fell for that, hook, line and sinker!

It did cause me to download an app (playscore2) that does a remarkably good job of OCR from a phone picture of any sheet music. I tried it on "Bay State Quickstep" and Bauer's "You And I" polka. Not perfect...but good enough to hear the tune. Not sure if it can output a machine-readable file (like .xml) but fun to play with.
