A Site Dedicated to all enthusiasts of Classic Style Banjo
Steve Harrison has been working on an arrangement of a Vess Ossman piece that he discovered.
I don't know if it was ever arranged for the banjo, but I guess that it must have been. I was not aware that Vess composed for piano. Has anyone on here ever heard of this piece before?
HERE IS THE PIANO SCORE TO DOWNLOAD
Steve's arrangement is now in the MUSIC LIBRARY along with a midi file to listen to.
Thank you again Steve.

On page 330 of The Banjo On Record (Heier & Lotz) "Go To It" is listed as having been recorded by Vess Ossman's Banjo Orchestra in 1917 for Gennet Records. I nearly didn't find it because the title is somehow not listed in the index. I've learned to distrust shop clerks who on the telephone say a certain item is not in stock (or never was in stock) because if I actually enter the shop and rummage around I almost always find the item I'm looking for. It occurred to me that an index might be like a lazy shop clerk so I rummaged through the pages and found "Go To It'. There is also a mention of it here:
The entry says that Ossman played banjo on the recording, Bill Farmer played "probably tenor banjo", and that unknown individuals played tenor sax, piano, and drums.
Never heard of it, but it should be interesting to see it retro-banjofied back to its former glory!
Hi Mike..if you look at the piano score, you'll see I didn't have to do all that much to it to get it banjofied. Ossman must have been thinking banjo when he wrote it. It would be interesting to see if there is an original banjo score out there.
