I would love to attend a Classic Banjo rally. It's not going to happen here, though. Sounds like there is so much more going on in the UK than in the USA. Hope it is an excellent event for those who get to attend.

Actually there are classic banjo gatherings twice a year in Pennsylvania. These are organized by the American Banjo Fraternity. They are not called Rallies but they amount to the same thing except that they are longer, usually an entire weekend.

One is usually in PA and the other has recently moved to Utica, NY.

The Utica location was discontinued last year. Both the Spring and Fall Rallies are presently being held at the Allenberry, PA venue.

Excellent, even better. They will and do take place in the USA and they are even called Rallies.

Thanks to all those people who made the effort and got to the Midlands and North Rally at Clowne yesterday.

Furtherest travelled was Claude, who had driven overnight from her home in Lille and then headed off at teatime to catch the ferry to perform in a concert near Paris tonight.

Despite the weather we had a great day with excellent turnout and some superb performances.

Great to see David Burman and Eric Womersley from this list. 

Thanks to Bill and Reuben for coming down from the North East.

John Willis found us again and gave a brilliant version of his tune "Swaledale" accompanied by Claude on guitar.

Roger Bower played a warm tribute to his late partner Cliff and a minutes silence was followed by Roger playing some of Cliff's favourites on Cliff's own banjo.

We almost didn't have time to play any Community Tunes but managed a good natured Banjo Oddity and Park Crescent - special thanks to Claude, Tom and Carolyn who held it together and my pal John Billington who played the top line on banjolin for the first time ever!

Thanks to the catering staff (Mavis and Sue) and all the stall holders - some doing brisk business this year!

Also thanks to the staff at Clowne who always make us welcome - where else can you get four real ales perfectly presented at £2.30 a pint!

AND Yes,we are on for next year - same banjo time, same banjo place...

I will be confirming the date with Clowne in the week....
