After doing some reading, I am finding that throughout the general manufacturing of banjo's, from the early days to now, the consensus on constructing the banjo pot remains quite varied. Finding out that Baur considered the closed back banjo pointless is quite interesting considering that now closed back represents what most people see as a banjo. Stewart, plus many more before him, decided to make metal clad rims to aid with tone and durability. Farland decides that putting metal on the rim or having a tone ring is completely not needed and instead to construct his rim out of thicker wood with a beveled lip. While we still use this today, industry and players decided that tone rings are here to stay.

All this to say; Has anyone found any banjo builds that they particularly like for classic fingerstyle/stroke setup?

My answer is:  Yes, I like banjo rims for classic and stroke style.  Wood, wood with rings, silver rims (aka "spun"), closed back, open banjo, I particularly like all of them.

Now, I have a tendency to like silver rims a little more, but still, I like banjos.
