Rob Murch plays a Paragon Banjo, Classic Style

Superb playing, against the odds, by Rob on my CE Paragon, using ProPik fingerpicks on nylon strings.

What a great afternoon I have had! Rob Murch is travelling North to the Whitby Folk Festival where he is teaching at a Classic Banjo Workshop on Sunday and we decided to meet up. If you can make it to the workshop I would strongly recommend that you do!

Rob arrived, Weaver banjo in hand, but made a beeline (via my CE Woodhoop Special and my CE Concert Grand) to my CE Paragon. Rob plays a Paragon himself and wanted to try out mine using his fingerpicks. I have NEVER used finger picks and expected that my nylon strings would be shredded in the first chord, but amazingly they weren’t!

Rob is a superb Classic Style player and his playing amazed me. We agreed that with another 30 years of practice I will be almost as good as he is… but I spotted a slight problem in this as I am running out of years !!!!

We had a few problems along the way, as you can see in the video, and Rob could only stay a short while as he had left his family wandering around Blackpool and they needed to be rescued. I hope that next time we can meet up for longer and maybe play something together.

Thank you for calling Rob. It was good to watch a great player play. You have inspired me and I will try to get down to some serious practice, when the family stuff is sorted.

Watch the video and be amazed. Rob makes it look so easy !

Yah, great stuff indeed. Rob's LH is fun to watch...spot on articulation, etc. I guess I never should have given up the picks! ;-)

Amazing - as ever.  I went to see Rob in Whitby on Sunday Ian and I attended his workshop - good stuff.  The best fiver's worth for a long time!  I use the same picks as Rob when I play bluegrass - they are very good.
