Poet and Peasant Overture - von Suppe - Arr. Parke Hunter and Mike Moss

A selection from the overture to Dichter und Bauer (Poet and Peasant), by Franz von Suppé, arranged for Classic banjo by Parke Hunter. I have arranged the piano part.

I would go to the kingdom of apology for absolution of my mistakes, but that is the realm of perfection, and it is unassailable. That is why the wise avoid it.

you didn 't choose to play the easier  tune ; beautiful

the sound of the piano is strange ( the cheap camera  or the poor PCM sound ?

Very cool. Yeah, the piano sounds odd. No worries, well done! I have a short pile of F. Bacon classical solos (like Orpheus, William Tell, etc.). Too many little black dots for this old duck!

I'm afraid it's a combination of both, crappy camera, poor midi/synth piano, and possibly the fact that I had to arrange the piano part myself since I don't have the original (I based it on a 4 hand piano version, taking most of the bass and leaving the lead voice to the 'jo). I'll probably re-record it further on with better quality if possible. Thanks for the comments, Marc&Marc!

Well played, took me straight back to the Orchestra Stalls in the old Metropolitan Music Hall, where I saw Mays and Hunter play this way back in 1897. Of course Mays had the additional difficulty of throwing lighted spears at the feet of the dancing girls as they tapped their way across the stage, in front of the dynamic duo. If you do decide to try this, start by using unlighted spears at first.

I'll try with unlighted spears first, and I guess I won't be able to add the heavily armed clown and the yak with wax lips into the act until the premiere!

I buy my yak wax at the local supermarket. Works a treat! Shiniest yak in the neighborhood!

Hi Richard, I got the piano and 2nd banjo parts, it's very kind of you to have scanned them for me. I'll record a better version in the future with the proper accompaniment (and hopefully Marc's waxed yak will cooperate!)

Hey Maestro Mike, that is some piece to learn.

I too feel that the computer piano accompaniment does sound a bit odd and camera does let you down a bit too! It is a shame as there has obviously been so much practice to get a very tricky solo like this one to performance standard.   We NEED to see and hear you at your best for this... so get some more candles lit and some manly speakers for that computer ;-)

Great stuff Mike !!!

Cheers Ian, you're right, I really need to invest in some new recording equipment... I'll also stop using these MIDI settings as they record very poorly. I've bought a few more lightbulbs which will hopefully see me through my next recordings ;-)
