"That tracks. John was an odd mixture of ego and humility. Tradition and innovation. That's a great story about FVE and Hartford."

John Hartford on strings, tuning, and tone rings

I am a huge Hartford fan and came across this interview in a 1993 issue of Banjo Newsletter. I am currently restoring, or making playable, an 1890's A.C. Fairbanks. So iv'e been poking around online for lots of info, and found this. I am well aware the John wasn't a classic style banjoist, but this snippet shows that he was definitely influenced by the banjos of the era. Thought I would share this snippet:BNL:You've done an awful lot of research on five string banjos. You've been working with a…See More

"Thanks Joel. I have some sight reading ability with "C" notation. With "A" notation I have to transpose as I read it. Not sure I'll ever get there with A notation. Thanks again for the list of tunes."

Repertoire

Hello Gentlepeople,I have been a banjoist for 30 plus years, and have recently been diving deep into classic style. I am looking for recommendations on building my repertoire.  Currently I have "The Palladium Rag" and "The Berkeley March" learned. And am arranging "The Chrysanthemum" by Joplin. There is SO MUCH music available here, but I would love to get a few "standards" under my fingers.ThanksSee More
