What I Did Last Summer

Thought I would check in to the Classic Banjo site at least once this year.

My apologies for being distracted by other , less important things.

So, I tried to get the Skirtlifters booked into some gigs in Europe so we could showcase at the European World of Bluegrass in the Netherlands.

The price of airfare had increased 50%, so I dropped that idea and went out by myself in May to stay maybe three weeks and recoup my expenses.

With help from some very…

Hi Clarke
Now we really are in exulted company. I would be very interested to know how your European Tour went. Was it what you expected? Kind regards Ray

Hi Clarke,
No, we've never met ... The closest we've come is that I did make a gourd banjo in David Hyatt's workshop at the Ozark Folk School a couple years ago - and he certainly spoke highly of you. Curly Miller and Carol Ann Rose were also there that year and I saw them perform and loved them. Would love to see the three of you together as the Old 78s ... Any chance you'll be coming to the West Coast any time soon?

All the best,
Adam

Welcome Clarke ; éric told me about your adventures in Germany
here 's the link of the jamboree
; for the others , if you open the big photo , you can see patricia , Clarke & éric on the right ; Unfortunatly , i guess there are not many classic banjo players in this picture , the others playing different others styles

Hi Clarke,
Good to hear from you. We met in Jackson at Hal and Mal's (I still look in the weekly entertainment section to see if you are playing- that was so great!) I hope you can make it down here again. Please keep in touch and have a Merry Christmas!

Hi Clarke,
That would be great if you could come down here again. Hal and Mal's would be a great place to play (I am pretty sure that was a weekday- they have bluegrass/folk on Wednesdays so that might be a day with a little more built in traffic. Also down the street is Fenian's Irish Pub (now smoke-free) which would also be a great place to play. I would also strongly encourage you to look into Mobile/Fairhope, AL. Fairhope is a great town on the bay with a few places to play- it is a beautiful town and very "artsy" and I think you could sure find a gig down there and also in Mobile.
I would love to sit in either at a performance or elsewhere and play 2nd banjo part for some duets!
Happy New Year and good to hear from you!
Jason Smith
