A Site Dedicated to all enthusiasts of Classic Style Banjo
My Cammeyer Vibrante Royal zither-banjo came home today!
Today I got a phone call from an officer from the precinct in San Francisco in which the stolen banjo was found.
You want your banjo?
yes!
then come and get it.
Should I bring anything? ( I was thinking about proof of ownership or photographs)
Yes bring 3 dozen home made cookies and a big box of donuts! I'm just kidding, you don't have to bribe us!
When I got down there (without donuts) the banjo had been carefully protected by bubble wrap and then nicely sealed in cardboard to look a bit like a rocket ship or a very peculiar rifle. And in BOLD magic marker on each sides was written:
Banjo
NOT Loaded!!!!!
Some photos were taken with me and various officers, with me holding the banjo up like a big fish I had caught. They offered to send them to my email address and said I could post them here. If I get a good one I'll do it.
It felt good to be able to give these guys some levity. Some relief from a serious job.
The banjo has been through turmoil and dampness and will need repair. The peghead overlay and the fingerboard are coming loose and there may have been some damage from the random heavy gauge steel strings that it had acquired. I heard something rattling inside and I discovered a pink plectrum. So it had been played, sort of. The person who had it was arrested by the federal government on I don't know what charges.
Thanks everyone for you kind words about the theft and recovery of this beloved instrument.
