Hi all,

there's two interessting banjos for sale in Germany.

First there's a "Concert 981". It doesn't say a maker. Anyone know anything about these?

Concert 981

And then there's a much more interessting piece (I think :-)). A zither banjo made, I guess, by Barnes and Mullins. I'm actually considering this one, specially if I manage to get the price down. Does anyone have experience with Barnes and Mullins zbs? And know anything about this modell?

Thanks!

I have had two Barnes & Mullins banjos, a zither-banjo and a regular open back 5 string. I think the Z-B was made by Abbott.  It was very good. The other I'm not sure about but it was a high quality instrument. The z-b had a screw-in capo with a threaded hole at fret 5 and an ivory nub below the 5th string at fret 10. This was for purpose of converting to Instant Banjeurine.

the 981 shows many details  we could think it was made by Dallas   ( end of the DS  ,  dots  each fret ,  peghead  )

In fact it says right on the eBay page that it was made by JE Dallas.  I'm thinking that Concert is the model name and 981 is a production number. 9 could stand for 1890 and this could be the eighty-first JE Dalllas banjo made that year. Just a guess . This is looks like a fabulous banjo, Old JE Dallas banjos can sound amazing. The best sounding open back banjo I ever played was a Dallas owned by a friend in Australia. Everything about the construction suggested it should sound very good but not out-of-the-ordinary but in fact the sound was stupendous.

Thanks for the input, guys.

On the page it says in the style of Dallas. The seller doesn't actually know who made it.

Well, it sure looks like a nice banjo. Pitty I can't afford it at the moment.

Silly me, assuming I knew what it meant when I  actually can't read (understand) German....
