I spent a very pleasurable 2hrs last night playing 2nd banjo. I have a single regular "student" (Bill is about my age but has only recently started playing the banjo) who is interested in Classic style playing. I initally got him hooked into learning to play "Sunflower Dance" and he's now capable of playing it at a moderate tempo...so I've started playing 2nd. It finally fell together at last nights workshop and even the coffee-shop denizens took notice.

I added "Cupid's Victory" to his list a few weeks ago and we were able to play it thru without stumbling too much...so I tacked on "Light Heart Polka" last night. He is gaining confidence and starting to address some of the more complicated techniques.

I really enjoy playing this stuff. It is not particularly complex music but the satisfaction of hitting everything "just right" is amazing. I'm going to sneak in a recorder next time. I'll post the soundfile when it happens.

I know how you feel mate. There is nobody here to play second banjo with. For years I just used a tape recorder. Of course now you can do it with ' Audacity ' which is a great recording program, and it's FREE which should appeal to you being a Scotsman.
Easy answer Rob - book B&B at the Bridge in Yatton; jump on a milk train Saturday morning at Waverley to Temple Meads - give us a bell and somebody'll pick you up and bring you on to Backwell.
We'll bring you back as far as Leeds on Sunday - train across to York and home in time for tea!
Cheers
Dave
I have often considered that we might start a "group project" where we pick a tune and record it to audacity. Then we email the audacity file to the next person and they add their part, etc., etc.

We'd need someone to mix it all down...I know very little about such things.

Dang, I wish I could hop a freighter to Bristol and thumb over to Blackwell. I bet I would be well practiced up by the time I got there...if the crew didn't toss me overboard first.
