A Site Dedicated to all enthusiasts of Classic Style Banjo
A "Remo Weatherking" banjo - they've done their due diligence there haven't they.
That box of ephemera though - I would hate to see that go to a house clearance place.
I have seen a lot of those "Remo Weatherking" banjos for sale.
Can you suggest who made it? Without doing any research, I wonder if it's by Dallas, with a John Pidoux stamp.
Yes, it certainly would be good if a collector got the ephemera; maybe someone on this site.
According to the John Pidoux bio on this site " He also sold banjos, made by Windsor and Joseph Riley, with the name *Pidoux* quoted as being the manufacturer."
So this is probably one of those. The bio also says that Pidoux played only zither-banjos, so the claim that this was his personal banjo is unlikely to be reliable.
The auction house estimate for the final bid on the banjo is very low, even with the fees added. I can see the John Pidoux stamp on the perch pole (dowel) followed by 4 numbers, the first two of which might be 4 and 9.
Details are vague about shipping. Perhaps the auction winner can drive the banjo home in a Michelin automobile.

I often wonder how sales/auction room like this one stay in business. Terrible photos, no idea about what they are supposed to be selling, no shipping arrangements, just a terrible 'take it or leave it' attitude which used to be found in all kinds of businesses in the UK at one time. There is also a 26.94% additional charge for VAT and sales tax, whatever that is. I won't be taking part in this exciting purchasing opportunity so that's a bit of competition out of the way for the keener collector and the many thousands of banjo fans who live in the Bourne End area.
