Hi,

Does anyone have a copy of the sheet music for Fred Van Eps Oriental Dance? There is a popular recording of him playing it together with Chinese Picnic. I've only ever been able to find Chinese Picnic on the manuscript, but I want to learn the oriental dance part bc its a banger.

If anyone has or knows where to find it, will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

“Chinese Picnic” can be found in the Van Eps Solos book.  It was originally titled “Pride of the South” and composed by George Lansing, published by Gatcomb.

The second part of that recording “Oriental Dance” was not published as a solo for banjo and was actually an extract from a musical titled “Wonderland” by Victor Herbert (that took me a while to discover).

Years ago Greg Adams and I attempted to write it out and Eli Kaufman published a draft that had weird right had fingerings that we were playing with.  I think we got pretty close if you ignore the fingerings (again, this was supposed to be a draft and not for publication until it was properly edited and put in a publishable state).  The 5 Stringer issue was #211.
