Adelina Patti played the zither banjo!  I have a CD of recordings she made at her castle in Craig-y-nos in the early 1900's, including Way Down Upon the Swanee River (Old Folks at Home), that she apparently played on the banjo.  Fascinating.
Queen Victoria was a banjo fan and a very competent percussionist, she was also fascinated by the early recording industry, and is reputed to have performed with Ossman and Hunter on some of their recordings. This aspect of her life had to remain confidential as it was thought that if it became general knowledge, that it would bring the reputation of the Royal Family (Gawd Bless 'em) into disrepute.
