Well done!
Well, not much interest in the two weeks since I posted this clip of one of the UKs last surviving classic banjo events, more interest in vintage recordings since posted, shame but, I guess that is why the classic banjo scene in the UK appears to be dying judging by the interest here .
I know just how you feel Nick, but we have to carry on with with the last 3 remaining
Banjo events. we just have to figure out how to encourage more to attend.
There used to be over a hundred attend at Bretby.
Hi Keith, I shall do what I can to support those events and, I have had some encouraging conversations with Pat regarding Backwell, some of us are interested in seeing this art form survive, in the form of actually playing this music in public. please keep us informed and we shall rearrange the diary to suit wherever possible.
Attendance may well increase if and when Covid is really and truly gone. I know seventy-three vaccinated and boosted (boostered?) people who in the past 6 months caught Omicron Covid. Every last one of them caught it from attending a gathering of people or from a family member who did. Some had an easy time. Many had a hard time. Several did not fully recover. The word is out: Covid is contagious and dangerous. So attendance is down at all sorts of events. And since many of those who play and/or enjoy classic banjo music are now seniors, some of that population is particularly vulnerable and they know it. So they don't attend any kind of public event.
Of course I understand this, gigs are lightly attended since lockdown, some venues have been forced to close altogether for the reasons you have stated, on such a site as this however we can still discuss at a safe distance the general state of CB in the UK and, I thought posting a video of the event could lead to interesting discussion even to those who did not attend, my point being that this stuff is alive and well and enjoyed by many, this may not last though if members of a site whose reason for existing is CB cannot be stirred into at least showing an interest, forums are generally for like minded enthusiasts to exchange thoughts and ideas, I had expected perhaps more of that to happen following my posting, perhaps I expect too much.
106 views on Youtube and 43 views here on the Ning site. That represents some interest. Lack of comments may not mean anything. I thought the best thing I ever posted here was a photo of a banjo-shaped seating area at and airport. No one else thought it was worth commenting on.
Another factor may have been your description of the video as being "not the best". I dunno. I'm brain-storming or guessing.
Perhaps if the video presented some group playing and the solo spots of more than one banjoist there might have been more response. Or maybe not. Anyway, lack of response does not necessarily indicate lack of interest. For instance I respond to only a few posts here and I initiate only a few. That doesn't mean I have no interest. It means displaying my interest is not a priority on that day. I'm sure it's the same for others. And some would rather read posts than reply to them. There's nothing wrong with that.
