"Dandies" were a 19C cult of people obsessed with dressing themselves up in the most fashionable clothing, living a life of leisure, etc. Eventually it became anyone who dressed in the highest style of the period and then especially pointed towards those who dressed up beyond their means/station.

The title is meant to be funny. What a great tune though. Well done, Marc!

You've got a lovely swing in your playing.

"Darktown" signifies the neighborhood inhabited by those of African descent. The title might be intended to conjure up images of dark complected and elaborately dressed competitors at a cake walk, doing astounding steps to this very tune in hopes of winning un gâteau  and fame & glory.
