Carry On, by Alfred Kirby -- an unusual banjo solo which incorporates a walking bass line. I've also attempted to incorporate a couple of Bill Ball's variations, with varying degrees of success.
Overall a really nice tune, it never fails to bring a smile to my face.
Not that you can see my face, of course.

More mistakes? I hear you ask. Yes, well, I have learned a lot from our friend Michael Laurence Redpath -- I have learned to just shoot one take and stop worrying about the mistakes!
My BAS tells me I need a bassier banjo for this one. This is the perfect excuse to go for a 12"... isn't it?
That is a great solo. It does bring a smile to the face. I have never been very terribly impressed by the Bill Ball version but you seem to bring it to life. Very good! I have never played it..but must do! By the way I see that you now have the piano score, any chance of a copy please ??
ps. Gesundheit for 2.06
I'm afraid I haven't got the piano score... that's why there is no piano in the background! However, I do join the chorus of those clamouring for it. The good thing is that this solo keeps a very steady beat so it hardly needs it.
This hat gives me allergy... it's an old, moth-eaten wool felt hat with holes through which you can see daylight!
That is very odd.. It must have been the wine induced tinnitus. I think that I need a lie down!!
Sorry Mike. I know what happened. I played the video and at the end instead of clicking "replay" I must have clicked another piece with piano and the grey cell did not realise that I was listening to the wrong tune! Oh dear! ....perhaps another wine is needed :-)
Mike, I'm going to refer to you simply as "the machine" from now ... you're churning these beauties out! Another good performance ... thanks for sharing!
Thanks! I decided to adapt the "Tim Twiss approach" to Classic Banjo ;-)
Now come on Mike, you know that Tim would have recorded all your tunes before breakfast :-)
I think I will have to take up your "machine gun practice technique", but I have trouble remembering which piece that I played 5 minutes ago !
Tim Twiss... he's really good! Which reminds me, I should pay him and the Minstrel gang a visit as soon as I record a more minstrel-y tune (Boston Walkaround for instance).
great job ; i cannot remember about your banjo ; what kind ?
Cheap masterclone, probably Korean -- shoddy workmanship, simple roughly cast brass tone ring, thick polyurethane varnish -- with the resonator removed, Renaissance head, morley bridge and heavy nylons. It would be fair to say I hate it with a passion but one must make do, I suppose.
