Tapis d'Orient plays Joe Morley's 'A Sea Breeze' on 5-string banjo. The piece incorporates 'Tom Bowlin', 'Rule Britannia' and 'The Sailor's Hornpipe'.
Every year at the time of the promenard concerts at the Royal Albert Hall in London I think of this piece by Morley. It is essentially a reduced version of the Fantasia on British Sea Songs that was composed by Henry Wood in 1905, on the centenary of the Battle of Trafalgar. I would like to think that Wood attended a Morley concert and was so impressed that he went away to compose his fantasia. It's more likely to have been the other way round, but you never know. Anyway, Wood's composition puts a ball-park date on Morley's version.
Sorry, that should be 'promenade'.
