I need to change the nut on my Clifford Essex Professional. It currently has an ebony one but I'm not happy with the string spacing.

Would you replace with ebony or bone or perhaps something else?

If ebony isn't available, bone does a good job...but I prefer replacing dark with dark. A bone nut just doesn't look right to me if the original was ebony. Any of the harder woods will work so don't hesitate to use stuff like Ipe or Coco-Bolo, any of the various Rosewoods or whatever you have on hand.
