Fingertip grooves and calluses
String grooves in calluses. These are produced when playing on heavy gauge nylon strings. I was taught that I should develop these calluses to help me to reproduce the dynamic sound and the tone often associated with banjo players as Fred Van Eps, Tarrant Bailey Jnr., William J Ball,et. al.

P.S. seriously though , I just don't seem to be able to keep my finger tips as soft as I would like. I have tried all sorts of hand cream without sucess. It 's ok just after I've had my hands in water, I then get the sound I want, however , can't keep on dashing off to put my hands in water can I . can I ?

Hmmm. After I've eaten supper I let the cats lick my finger clean...that's where my calluses have gone!

Now there's a thought , ( two thoughts ) a)must start and wash up instead of using disposable dishes, and b) must get myself a cat. :)
