I really like the Bacon "FF Professional" style banjos. The internal resonator really makes 'em sound wonderful. They project like crazy and are generally well balanced in tone. I had mine converted from its original tenor configuration to 5-string for clawhammer...not nearly as fancy as this one!
Some years ago, I spent a couple of days talking with Dave Ball in Knoxville. Dave is a collector and builder and has done some very interesting experiments with the internal resonator design. His "best/final" design has no "f" holes in the back of the resonator, it is simply flat (and phenolic rather than wood). It has a very warm and delightful tone, slightly biased towards the bass end.
Looking forward to hearing this one played!!
