Hansome, distinguished and dressed poorly by his mother. That coat is about 5 sizes too big for him...trying to look important or did he get it off the rack from the photo studio?
Perhaps this is Converse after they let some of the air out?

I've had to explain this quite a bit. That was the fashion for the mid 1860s . Look through all the minstrel photos on the other site. Baggy was the fashion. The mid 1880s, and Oscar Wilde's aesthetic movement brought skin tight. Knowing fashion trends help date photos.
Yes, I understand tracking fashion trends, etc. Still...it just looks like a little kid in his father's suit. Some trends die by their own hand...glad he wasn't wearing his trousers around his knees!
