Heh, heh. I had one of those in use a few months ago. Guy in the band had one of those 4-in-0ne-0ut boxes and plugged my mic in w/0 turning that channel on. Nobody noticed...I guess I'm loud enough acoustically!
Very likely true. I have had it both ways. I've had audience members shout out "turn the Banjo up!" and once I had a lady tell me to stop playing so she could hear the singer. I bet it was the singer's mother...
I find that sound engineers at gigs tend to suppress the banjo. On a recent gig where I was playing mandolin I was having trouble hearing the banjo player. I asked the soundman to give us "too much banjo". That worked. Too Much to him was Adequate for me. As far as I'm concerned More Banjo is always better.
Gee, I've never played a gig that had a "sound engineer". I've only had one gig that had monitors...which was a bit odd, but it was a contra dance and once all the dancers started dancing, the monitor was very welcome! For our monthly 'coffee house' gig, only the Autoharp really needs PA. Heck, the back of the room is only 25ft away. I took my bluegrass cannon (Stelling archtop) there...once!
Yes , others musicians are jealous from the banjo because it is a wonderful & powerful instrument ; But i wonder why so are most of the sound engineers ?
