Fingertip grooves and calluses

String grooves in calluses. These are produced when playing on heavy gauge nylon strings. I was taught that I should develop these calluses to help me to reproduce the dynamic sound and the tone often associated with banjo players as Fred Van Eps, Tarrant Bailey Jnr., William J Ball,et. al.

It 's ok just after I've had my hands in water, I then get the sound I want, however , can't keep on dashing off to put my hands in water can I . can I ?
